About my research
I focus on shining light on hidden or overlooked potential, through recognizing people and their practices. This theme runs through my teaching, research and practice in the creative industries. Currently, I am growing an international research profile in contemporary costume practice. This research draws together my professional expertise, teaching interests and the capabilities I have gained through my involvement in several national and international research projects over the last decades
Current research projects include writing a monograph about collaboration, creative and emotional labour in design realisation; exploring the social and sustainability benefits of digital gift economies; and advocating for recognition of costumers' emotional labour and creative skills.
Active projects
A year-long postdoctoral research project based at Aalto University, Finland, exploring how costumers are transitioning to digital technologies.
Explores how digital gift economies, in the form of Buy Nothing groups, enable sustainable behaviour change and community wellbeing.
My new book looks at the collaborative creativity, emotional labour, and technical skill of costume creation.
